Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk has been exploring the possibility of forming a new research lab to develop an alternative to OpenAI's popular text-based chatbot, ChatGPT. The lab would focus on pursuing AI research, with no concrete plans yet to develop specific products.

Recruiting Top AI Researchers

Musk has been reaching out to AI researchers in recent weeks to assemble a team for the project. One researcher he has approached is Igor Babuschkin, who recently left Alphabet's DeepMind AI unit. However, Babuschkin has not officially signed onto the initiative.

Musk's Departure from OpenAI

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 as a nonprofit startup with Silicon Valley investor Sam Altman. However, he left the board in 2018. Despite this, Musk still voiced his opinion on ChatGPT, calling it "scary good" and warning that we are "not far from dangerously strong AI."

Exciting Potential for New AI Research and Development

It is important to note, however, that while Musk has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to innovation, his track record with Twitter has been less than stellar. Nonetheless, his past achievements and Babuschkin's expertise in AI provide an optimistic outlook for the potential of this new research lab.

And Although the project is still in its early stages, the potential for new AI research and development is exciting. Musk's drive to assemble a team of top AI researchers demonstrates his commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
